 A Letter from Our Leadership
Organizations, and the people within them, grow stronger when stretched and challenged. The past year has stretched Great Schools Partnership, and we are stronger for it. From navigating through a leadership transition to engaging in energetic community dialogue
in support of successful programs, Great Schools accepted the challenge. We’ve persisted because there’s a lot on the line.
There is little doubt that education is the most powerful engine when it comes to the future success of our community. With a total enrollment of more than 60,000 students spanning a broad spectrum of talents, needs and life experiences, Knox County Schools can’t do this critically important job alone. That’s where Great Schools Partnership comes in.
With generous support and community involvement, Great Schools is uniquely positioned as the only public-private partnership that works side by side with Knox County Schools to bring the most promising research and effective practice in public education to our schools and classrooms. Working together, at times challenging each other to stretch, we’ve made a difference. In 2018, Knox County students once again outperformed the state in all subjects on the TNReady academic assessment.
Throughout this report, you’ll discover many ways Great Schools Partnership has helped students, families, teachers and communities achieve success. There’s more to do. The pace of change in technology, the job market and society is moving faster, and our work as a nimble partner to Knox County Schools is more important now than ever.
We hope you will join us as we continue to stretch and embrace challenge to assure strong schools, successful students and a great future for Knoxville.
