No child in Knox County should miss out on learning because they come to school hungry, sick or experiencing stress at home. With a focus on removing the barriers that get in the way of student learning, each community school has a dedicated site resource coordinator that builds partnerships to develop the success of children, families and the overall neighborhood.
Our resource coordinators work with more than 275 agencies and partners, who in turn provide supports and services that are based on a community driven assessment of the needs and assets of each community and school site. Because performance in school has a lot to do with life outside of it, resource coordinators look at the big picture and recruit partners to provide services ranging from dental care and mental health, to afterschool academic enrichment, English as a second language classes or an evening meal. With the school building as the central hub, our partners make great use of public school buildings through a broad range of programming for students, families, school employees and neighborhood residents.
