Knox County elementary school principals are invited to apply for Leaders for Readers to serve students during the 2019-20 school year. We plan to announce which schools will be joining Leaders for Readers at our celebration event on May 23, 2019.
Great Schools Partnership’s Leaders for Readers program began as a concept in 2015 and started serving students at six elementary schools as an experimental pilot in spring semester of the 2015-16 school year. The most recent program results (2017-18) show that students who participated in Leaders for Readers grew their average reading rank (NCE scores) by half a point more than a matched control group. Additionally, teachers reported that 85 percent of participants improved in at least one of the following: overall reading (50%), reading comprehension (56%), oral reading fluency (61%), attitude about school (42%), and attitude about reading (50%).
